Fred Hill and Son Co. was founded in 1894 by Fred Hill. Mr. Hill was a tool and die
maker that did most of the tooling work for the Philadelphia Mint. When the Mint
formed its own tooling department in the early 1900’s Fred made the decision to change
his business and enter the material handling storage equipment industry. At that time the
material handling industry was in its infancy and had a product offering that consisted of
casters, hand trucks, and ladders.
Over the years Fred Hill and Son Co. has continued to
grow and currently represents over 250 manufacturers. Fred Hill and Son Co. is a
privately held business that has been under
the same family's ownership since 1939.
Fred Hill and Son Co. has been serving
customers through providing quality
products and friendly and courteous
customer service. These concepts are the
cornerstones of the Fred Hill mission
statement and will provide a solid
foundation that will enable Fred Hill to be
serving customers into the next century.

1894-1954: Arch Street
In its original location Fred Hill and Son Co. occupied 2500 square feet. Expansion over
the years saw the purchase of several more properties on Arch Street to increase Fred
Hill's total space to 20,000 square feet.

1954-1964: 10th & Cherry Streets
The Independence Mall project necessitated a move from the Arch Street location in
1954. Fred Hill and Son Co. then relocated to a larger facility of 30,000 square feet at
10th & Cherry Streets. Additional warehouse space was
obtained soon after.
